I’ve had the privilege of knowing Delzie since she was seven years old, along with her family, and have had the joy of capturing every milestone in their lives. This is one of the greatest rewards of photography—you become part of a family’s journey, growing alongside them. It’s a feeling that can’t be measured.
Delzie graduated from Sierra High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with her associate degree. However, her most remarkable achievement was earning an ROTC scholarship, which allowed her to pursue a private pilot license—and she did! This incredible young woman even flew solo from Colorado to New York and back!
Delzie is a remarkable role model for young women who strive to push themselves beyond their comfort zones.
With lots of doubts at that age but the support of her family she applied for a private pilot license through the ROTC program without a clear plan in mind.
Fortunately, she received a scholarship and completed the program, boosting her self-esteem and proving to herself that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.
Her achievements, particularly earning her private pilot license, inspired her to have her senior session at the local airport. I have to admit, I got a mini lesson on the different planes and how they work—I was totally out of my depth, but she was thrilled!
Despite how cold my fingers were, it was all worth it when she saw the final photos and absolutely loved them!
